Minor League Division:

Minors Tournament Bracket

Jeff Alligood - Commissioner (minors@dyaa.net)

Age (As of 4/30/2012)

8 12. Most are 9 and 10 years old.

Ability/Experience

Players with previous organized baseball experience and older beginners. 8 year olds must have played as 7s (preferably longer) and have the basic skills to play at this level. 8s should demonstrate exceptional ability and desire to compete with older kids at this level.

Player Evaluations

Yes. All players in the 9-12 age group should participate in evaluations. 8s must be evaluated to be considered for this level of play. See separate handout for evaluations schedules.

IMPORTANT: No 11 or 12 year olds will be allowed to play without being evaluated.

Team Selections

Teams selected by coaches. Typically 11-12 players per team. Requests to be placed with a small number of friends or siblings can usually be accommodated. Note we are limiting requested player groupings to a maximum of 3 players. Team rosters will be balanced by ages and evaluation scores.

Schedule

Teams selected week of March 12. Practices begin March 17. Opening Ceremonies is April 14. Games played April 9 - June 2.

Practices and Games

Two to three practices per week prior to the season. One practice per week after games begin. One weeknight game and one Saturday game each week. Practices held at fields in the Dilworth area. Games played at Freedom Park fields off of East Blvd.

Game Details

This is our first level with kids pitching. 10 players play in the field each inning. Teams use a full batting order. Innings end after 3 outs or 5 runs. Games are 6 innings or 1:45 time limit.

Post-Season Play

Some 9s will be invited to participate on a Dilworth tournament team that plays beginning June 16 (TOCs) and practices prior to that.

Challenge Play

Challenge play is a way for the players who wish to play more baseball, to do that through extra tournaments with other leagues. Challenge play is available for all ages, especially 8s and 9s. Generally speaking, Challenge teams are assembled through first come - first served basis; however, if we have more players than we can accomodate, try-outs will be held.
